Mercer International Inc. operates in two segments: pulp and wood products. Together with our modern and highly efficient subsidiary mills, Mercer is one of the world's largest producers of market northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) and northern bleached hardwood kraft (NBHK) pulp. Mercer also produces and sells tall oil, a by-product of our production process, which is used as both a chemical additive and as a green energy source. Additionally, as a result of significant investments made in cogeneration equipment, all Mercer mills generate and sell a significant amount of surplus 'green' energy. At Mercer Timber Products, one of the world's largest sawmills, we manufacture, sell, and distribute lumber, electricity, and other wood residuals which produces lumber for Europeans, US and other lumber export markets; expanding our biomass energy profile and providing synergies relating to the sharing of wood and biomass fuel resources and optimization of our staffing and services at our other mills.
